Blur the background of a photo

Get the “portrait mode” look without a special camera. The AI keeps your subject sharp and softens everything behind it.

How to use it

  1. Add a photo.
  2. The AI separates the subject; the background is replaced with a blurred copy of the original.
  3. Adjust the blur strength with the slider.
  4. Download as JPG or PNG.

When to blur instead of remove

Blurring keeps the context of the scene — a street, a room, nature — but stops it from competing with the subject. It is a great fix for distracting backgrounds in portraits, product shots and real-estate details.

Fine-tuning the result

If part of the subject got blurred (for example a hand or the edge of a product), click Refine and paint it back with the Restore brush.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded and processed by JavaScript and WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to our server, and the result is generated on your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page (and, for AI tools, the model) has loaded.

How strong can the blur be?

From a subtle softening to a very creamy background. The strength scales with image size, so it looks the same on small and large photos.

Does it work with group photos?

Usually yes — the AI keeps all prominent people sharp. Check the edges and refine if needed.
