iPhone and iPad: lift the subject
- Open the photo in the Photos app (iOS 16 or newer).
- Touch and hold the main subject until a glowing outline appears.
- Choose Copy or Share to paste or save the cut-out; on iOS 17 and newer you can also choose Add Sticker.
Android phones
Several manufacturers include a similar feature in their gallery apps — on recent Samsung Galaxy phones, for example, you can touch and hold a subject in the Gallery to copy or save it. Availability depends on the phone model and system version, so check your gallery’s editing menu.
Limits of built-in features
- You get a cut-out only — no new background, shadow or square layout for shops.
- There is no way to fix mistakes by hand.
- Processing many photos means repeating the steps one by one.
- Results can be saved in reduced quality depending on how you share them.
A method that works on any phone
Open Remove background in Safari, Chrome or another mobile browser and pick photos from your gallery. The AI runs on the phone itself, so nothing is uploaded. You can then add a white background, create shop-ready squares in the product photo studio and download everything as a ZIP.
Tip: on older phones choose the Fast quality setting — it uses a smaller model and less memory.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn’t my iPhone show the lift-subject option?
It requires iOS 16 or later and a supported device, and it works best when the subject is clear and separated from the background.
Does the browser method use mobile data?
Only once: the AI model is downloaded the first time (tens of megabytes) and then cached. Use Wi-Fi for the first run if your data is limited.
