Why photos get cropped
Most phones shoot in 4:3, while the most popular print (4×6 in / 10×15 cm) is 2:3 — a longer shape. The lab has to trim the long side of the paper or the short side of your photo. If you do not crop yourself, the lab crops automatically from the centre.
Crop before printing
- Open Crop image and choose the ratio: 3:2 for 4×6 in, 4:5 for 8×10 in.
- Position the frame so heads and important details are inside.
- Download in high quality (JPG at 90%+ or PNG) and order the print set to fill the paper.
How many pixels do I need?
At 300 dpi you get the sharpest prints; 200–250 dpi is still fine for photos viewed at arm’s length. Read more in DPI explained. Avoid enlarging small photos — upscaling does not add detail.
Frequently asked questions
Can I print a 9:16 phone screenshot or story?
It will need heavy cropping or white borders on standard paper. Consider a 2:3 print and accept white margins, or crop to the most important part.
